All the Bollywood celebrities in Tinseltown are always in the public eye. From their films to public appearances to their private affairs, there is hardly any part of their lives that is not under constant scrutiny. While being a public figure brings them a lot of fame, positive attention, and fan-following, they also have to bear the brunt of the unavoidable and intolerable social media phenomenon we call ‘trolls‘.
Ever since social media gained popularity, everybody suddenly had a voice and found a space to voice their opinions – the good, bad and the ugly. While most use it to make it a better place by sharing constructive feedback, ideas, and ideologies, a small section simply sees it as an opportunity to spew negativity. And if history is any proof, celebrities are usually an easy target for internet trolls. While most of the times public figures choose to look the other way, some cases of trolling make it hard for them to be ignored, evoking a well-deserving reply.
Here are a few instances of the times that B-Town celebs shut down trolls:
To everyone out there please have the courage to stand up to bullies, trolls and people who generally put you down.. #wearyourcourage

Also, remember when Priyanka was trolled for wearing a short dress while meeting the Prime Minister?
Well, this was her response to the trolls!
And when Abhishek schooled another troll:
With all due respect kind sir, I would expect an esteemed doctor such as yourself to study all the facts and figures before proclaiming anything. I certainly hope you do so with your patients. Learn the economics of the film before you tweet something that will embarrass you. 🙏
— Abhishek Bachchan (@juniorbachchan) September 26, 2018
And another one:
Because, sir, I have several other businesses that I run apart from acting and producing movies. Sports being just one of them.

There are many such instances of trolls taking on people and not just celebrities. But there are also incidents where people have come forward to take a stand for someone else. It just goes to show that social media can be used to both – empower and bring someone down with negative comments. However, we’re now living in a time where it is important to identify and change the way we approach and see social media as a whole, to make it a better and safer environment for everyone who’s a part of it, don’t you agree?
