Various people have various reasons to remain obsessed with the show – there’s Chuck and Blair‘s grand love story or Dan and Serena‘s adorable one. But for me, the best and the most important aspect of this show was Serena and Blair’s friendship. That is why whenever I think of a desi version of Gossip Girl, the most important people for me are Serena and Blair, and I really think the breathtaking Deepika Padukone and the gorgeous Sonam Kapoor would slay as these two! In Gossip Girl, Serena and Blair took down whoever messed with them. In Koffee With Karan season three, Deepika and Sonam joined hands and ripped apart literally each and everyone from Bollywood (we’re sure Ranbir still hasn’t gotten over it).

Before I begin, let me tell you, I’m 100% on Team Glamorous Gloss. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good matte lipstick every now and then, but when Team MissMalini‘s beauty blogerettes got their hands on L’Oréal Paris’s new Cannes Collection divided into Sonam Kapoor’s favorite mattes and Katrina Kaif‘s favorite glosses, which B-T-W have an amazing color pay off, I knew which side I wanted to pick. The gloss look isn’t just about your lips, it’s an outfit commitment.

Here are 3 reasons I’m on Katrina’s team. I pulled off the glamorous gloss look all day, through 3 outfit changes. We all wonder what lips to carry off with what kind of eyes and then comes the larger question: how to work your outfit around your makeup or the other way round? When it comes to gloss lips, here’s how I do it.

1) The Casual Gloss

My pencil skirt’s doing some double-duty and so are my eyes. While I left my eyes matte, I threw on a pink blouse, and an orange gloss (Orange Tempo)! It’s amazing how much time I can save with these glossy colors, lip liner, lipstick, and gloss… all in one step. Color on color! Why not?

My fellow beauty bloggerette, Devanshi and I marked our territory when it came down to the new L’Oréal Paris Cannes Collection. Without a sliver of a doubt, I was Team Matte! Brand ambassador, Sonam Kapoor is not only my style inspiration but being a team matte girl, I knew we could be BFF’s! (Ok maybe too extreme).

A good matte lip stain can let you go bold with the rest of your makeup. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good gloss. But with a matte stain you always look chic and graceful no matter what. So, without wasting much time, let’s get on with the three looks that I rocked out in the matte lipsticks.

Look 1: Sporty Chic

Wearing comfy Superdry sweats, I sat pretty and teamed this bright pink lipstick with an extended winged eyeliner and my trustworthy bold brows. I’ve used the shade, Glamor Fuchsia.

Now, we don’t know if the gorgeous L’Oréal ambassadors, or their stylists, were trying to color coordinate, but we definitely are in love with the diverse ways they’re showing us how to wear white.

Sonam Kapoor was on the red carpet once more and this time, she might’ve just picked up a little moss along the way… you know, as she was dusting the Cannes floor! If you don’t believe me, I have a video to prove it…

See! I told you so. At least, that’s how we felt, but we aren’t the only ones feeling lots of fashion feels, are we? The Internet’s kind of losing its mind comparing this dress to everything from a mop to Big Bird, Anil Kapoor‘s chest hair… let that visual sink in for a moment. Some are even comparing it to Rihanna‘s dress from the MET Gala…

While the Internet reacted hilariously to RiRi’s Guo Pei design, wearing it for a “costume” gala is still somehow justified. Sonam Kapoor’s intricate green Elie Saab number was probably better off on the runway. The Chopard earrings, though, those are definite keepers. Here, take another look at it and soak it in from all angles.

Later that evening, stylist and sister Rhea Kapoor, had Sonam switch out to one more Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla couture number.

Rhea captioned this image “butterfly couture” and we most definitely see the butterfly resemblance, we just don’t know what’s with this sudden love for the animal kingdom. While we’re in love with the last Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla summer saree and we don’t have any objection to animal inspiration, we’re not sure how we feel about this couture piece yet. But hey, I will say I’m obsessed with those Nicholas Kirkwood shoes. That’s just our two cents.

Time and again, year after year, Sonam Kapoor has proved that she “Cannes” do it! Even this year, in her Abu Jani & Sandeep Khosla sari and her glorious blue Ralph & Russo number, we couldn’t take our eyes off the country’s numero uno fashionista. However, she might have hit a small bump along the way and it can only get better from here. Donning part deux of her tryst with Abu Sandeep, Kapoor channelled a beautiful butterfly at one of the Cannes 2015 parties.

1. The right way to do summer

If we could give Alia Bhatt a title, it would be ‘Child of the Sun’. Here’s what we learnt from her look – The best way to dress for the summer is to add bright colours, obviously. But when they come in prints like leaves, palm trees, the sun, or anything that screams summer, that’s when you know you’ve done it right.

The fact that she added sandals in an even brighter colour only adds to the look and makes it pop out more.

2. How to play up your prints

No one does print on print like Anushka Sharma, this you already know. Why it works so well is because she’s paired two primary prints together. The look probably wouldn’t work as well if there were florals or an aztec print involved.

3. Leather can be worn in the summer

The only reason leather worked in this heat for Priyanka Chopra is because she matched it with summer essentials. Floral shoes and a washed out denim vest. Next time you feel like breaking out those leather pants, remember to take your florals with you.

4. Multi-layering is an actual thing

Ask Kangana Ranaut. Sometimes just one layer isn’t enough. Pile it on like Kangana and when you’re doing it, don’t be afraid to mix up your materials and silhouettes – it won’t work if everything is slouchy or if everything is super tight.

5. You don’t need to wear two colours to colour block

It’s true! Jacqueline Fernandez wore all blue and felt like a pop of colour, which came in the form of her sling. That’s two block colours and a perfect combination. She didn’t need to wear two different pieces to colour block, all she did was accessorise.

6. Matchy-Matchy works

…if you do it like how Shraddha Kapoor has. A twin-set is all the rage right now and whether it’s a matching top and skirt or jacket like Shraddha, it’s got that somethin’ somethin’.

7. The power of a suit

This is quite similar to point 6. It isn’t a power-suit you’ll see in the halls of a super corporate office, this is a bright number that can be worn to a formal cocktail or dinner – don’t be afraid to match your trousers and jacket to amp up the edge. And better yet, make sure your buttons go high enough and skip the blouse/tee inside – sexy and powerful all at once.

8. The easiest way to sports-up

Just add sneakers! And if Deepika Padukone can get away with it, it’s something you definitely need to keep in mind. Sneakers work under dresses, skirts, shorts and basically anything you throw at them. See how Kangana did it too in point 4.

Cannes Film Festival 2015

The Cannes Film Festival 2015 comes to a close tomorrow. From Katrina Kaif‘s red debut, Sonam Kapoor‘s electric red carpet presence and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan‘s eternal glory at the festival, we saw a little bit of everything. We even caught Aishwarya being bffs with Eva Longoria and Richa Chadda looking absolutely beautiful in Sabyasachi. While you, me and everyone else out there expects all the models and celebrities to be super lady-like and regal, what we don’t expect is a Dubsmash. And what we don’t expect even more, is TWO!
